Car production takes a tumble

Car production takes a tumble

22nd January 2009

According to figures published by the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) UK car production fell sharply in December 2008. A staggering 47.5 percent drop in car production in comparison to December 2007.
The reason for this immense drop is no mystery to anyone who switches on the news. The economic down turn has hit the car industry hard forcing even the largest car manufactures to close their production lines of over Christmas.

Recently Honda announced it was planning to freeze car production at its Swindon factory for a further 2 months, bringing the factory to a stand still from February to May 2009.

The UK car market is not the only country to be hit hard by the economic downturn. The car industry globally is going through a very difficult period and the question on everyones lips are, which car manufactures will still be standing at the end? Bring on 2010 and we'll see who's weathered the storms!
